The 16th typhoon ‘Mindulle’ struck the western coast, causing impassable roads in Chiba with heavy rains and gusts on Friday, potentially affecting emergency supplies.

Roadways were marked with illuminated signs warning drivers of floodwaters while already blocked off roads were flooded by downpours.

The Japan Meteorological Agency warned Typhoon Mindulle was moving northeast at a speed of about 35 kilometres per hour (21 miles per hour) and had winds of up to 162 kilometres per hour (100 miles per hour) . Several zones were affected until early Saturday morning.

Earlier on Friday, East Japan Railway Co. suspended service on some trains in Chiba Prefecture and Japan Airlines Co. cancelled more than 100 flights, mainly those arriving at or departing from Haneda Airport.
