Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Khartoum to demand the Sudanese army step aside and allow a fully civilian transitional government to take power on Thursday.
The large scale of the demonstrations could be seen in drone footage, with crowds waving national flags and chanting slogans outside the headquarters of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council.
Demonstrators were unhappy over the speed of the transition to purely civilian rule and democracy, as well as efforts to dismantle the previous government.
Sudan has been led by an interim council, a joint military-civilian body, which has been governing the country since 2019, after president Omar al-Bashir was removed from power following months of protest.
Tensions between the military and civilian representatives in the council have risen after a failed coup attempt on September, 21.
