Bacelona head coach Ronald Koeman discussed his increasingly risky position in a pre-match press conference in Barcelona on Friday.

"The work of a coach depends on the players he has. If I had a sack full of money, I would still have (Lionel) Messi here," stated Koeman when asked if a new manager could do a better job at Barcelona.

Koeman’s Barcelona have had an tough start to the season since Messi left and are already sitting five points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid. In the Champions League, Barcelona lost their first two games.

"The best moment was the moment I signed as Barca manager. The worst moment was when Messi left," stated Koeman.

SOT, Ronald Koeman, Barcelona head coach (Spanish): "On the way in I was reminded of something that [Louis] Van Gaal said. ‘Good day to my friends in the press.’ How good is this."

SOT, Ronald Koeman, Barcelona head coach (Spanish): "I think there is no need for an answer to that [whether he feels disrespected]. What do you think? You the media are very important. You can help or criticise. This isn’t about being good or bad. It’s about manners."

SOT, Ronald Koeman, Barcelona head coach (Spanish): "I wasn’t told about anything. It is true that I’ve just found out that the president was here (at the sports centre) this morning. I didn’t see him. I was preparing tomorrow’s game. We were training. I can’t say anything because, once again, I wasn’t t told about anything. Things stay the same for me. But I know what’s going on. Because I have eyes and ears. And I know that many things are being leaked. So there must be some truth in it. But, I say it again, I haven’t been told about anything."

SOT, Ronald Koeman, Barcelona head coach (Spanish): "I think this is a question for tomorrow. I am not the important person right now. It’s about the team that must play tomorrow and get a positive result. That’s much more important than a single person. Everybody knows I am here because I love this club. I arrived here during a very delicate situation. Today seems even more complicated than that first day. Everybody has an opinion in that sense. To me, the important thing are the players."

SOT, Ronald Koeman, Barcelona head coach (Spanish): "I don’t know [whether the team would be different with a different coach]. I think that the team as it is today will stay the same the next three months. Many young players. And players that can recover the club’s style. We are talking about a system. We always talk about the system. Because, to me, this isn’t about a fixed system. I think we must create a system following the type of players we have in the team. If we don’t have enough forwards for the one on one, then we have to resort to sides players. So the work of a coach depends on the players he has. If I had a sack full of money, I would still have (Lionel) Messi here."

SOT, Ronald Koeman, Barcelona head coach (Spanish): "Since day one Jordi (Cruyff) has said to me he won’t be coach of this club. He has also said the same to the club. We speak every day. But what we talk about is something private."

SOT, Ronald Koeman, Barcelona head coach (Spanish): "We are talking about two different ways and styles of playing. Both styles can result in many different things. They are the current champions because they deserved that trophy. They are a very competitive team. It gets very difficult trying to create scoring occasions when playing against them."

SOT, Ronald Koeman, Barcelona head coach (Spanish): "The best moment was the moment I signed as Barca manager. The worst moment was when Messi left."
