The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures opened its doors for visitors in Los Angeles on Thursday.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held and visitors had their first chance to explore the 300,000 square-foot museum for themselves honouring American cinema.
"I think this is super important for the community of filmmakers. I’m a director, I love cinema, I just adore it, and I think to have a space like this for filmmakers to come together and share their passion for movies," one visitor noted after her visit to the museum.
Another visitor stated, "there’s amazing exhibits about the history of movie making, the science of movie making all the aspects of the mystique of motion pictures and it’s a wonderful place."
The museum has props and interactive attractions for visitors including a mock-up Oscar walk way giving visitors the opportunity to experience the sensation of winning American filmmaking’s highest honour.
