After going through a tough lockdown, the Argentinian government lifted several COVID-19 restrictions and brought in new measures, starting on Friday.
Buenos Aires residents can be seen going about daily life with and without masks, going for walks, eating at restaurants, going to the theatre and talking in Cafes.
"After such a long quarantine it feels strange to see people without masks. I think there is a period of adaptation, but it is also a little liberating to return to some kind of normality prior to quarantine,” said Nicolas, a resident of the city.
Amongst the new measures is a lift on mask restrictions outdoors if social distance rules are maintained.
Whilst some residents welcome the new regulations and criticised the long lockdown, others found it important to stick to the mask restrictions inside venues and buildings.
The new regulations will be effective from October 1 to December 31, 2021.
Venues like clubs and theatres are instructed to use a maximum of 50 percent of their authorised capacity.
School, group and study trips are permitted to be organised again if they follow the new restrictions.
As of November 1 2021, non-resident foreigners are allowed back into the country if they comply with current and future immigration and health requirements.
SOT, Nicolas, Resident (Spanish): "After such a long quarantine it feels strange to see people without masks. I think we are going to have to get used to people who want to start greeting with a kiss or a hug. I think there is a period of adaptation, but it is also a little liberating to return to some kind of normality prior to quarantine."
SOT, Rodrigo, Resident (Spanish): "It seems to me that it is good, it is something with which we have to start living together I never liked the mask, I did not like to normalise it either and at a certain point I am happy that you can walk without a mask and they do not tell you anything."
SOT, Ana, Resident (Spanish): "I think it’s good to continue using it, especially in high-traffic areas such as shopping malls, I think it’s careful."
SOT, Carolina, Resident (Spanish): "We have had the longest quarantine in the world. It seems to me that it is wrong, it is wrong, because it did not work. How many dead do we have? I tell you my mother died so I lived it in my own flesh."
SOT, Virginia, resident (Spanish): "I agree that you can be outdoors without a mask. I do not agree that in closed places, although there is less capacity, you have to be without a mask I think you have to continue to be with a mask."
