Israel welcomed visitors to its Expo 2020 Dubai pavilion on Saturday. The exhibit has no walls and follows an ‘open’ theme, signifying openness, diversity and inclusiveness.
The Expo 2020 comes just a year after Israel normalised its relations with the UAE and is the first time the country is participating in such a large-scale and important event in an Arab country.
The spokesperson for the Israel pavilion Menachem Gantz explained the connection the two nations share. "What unites us is much much bigger and higher than what divides us. While you visit the Israeli pavilion you can feel that and see that we – both these two countries, for example, come from sand, desert and dunes. We created out of these difficult climate conditions beautiful countries with great achievements."
Visitors to the pavilion will be able to learn about Israel’s past, present and future with an emphasis on looking forward. A monument of the phrase ‘Towards Tomorrow’ written in Aravrit (a mixture of Hebrew and Arabic) is central to the pavilion.
SOT, Menachem Gantz, Spokesperson for the Israel Pavilion: "Our pavilion is a dream come true. It’s the first time in history that the Expo arrives to the Middle East and it’s the first time Israel has the opportunity and privilege to participate in such an occasion, such an important international exhibition fair in an Arab country."
SOT, Menachem Gantz, Spokesperson for the Israel Pavilion: "We are in the opportunity district and this opportunity leads us towards tomorrow, which is the theme of our pavilion. You can see here the sign in both languages – Hebrew and Arabic, which we call Aravrit – saying ‘towards tomorrow’ in one sign that joins together. That’s why, what unites us is much much bigger and higher than what divides us. While you visit the Israeli pavilion you can feel that. You can see, that we – both these two countries [Israel and the UAE] – for example, come from sand, come from desert, come from these dunes in the sand. We created out of this very difficult climate conditions beautiful countries with great achievements."
SOT, Menachem Gantz, Spokesperson for the Israel Pavilion: "We wanted to express how open we are, how transparent we are toward the others and we decided to build this pavilion with open walls. It’s like a tent in the sands in the Mediterranean. And what is a tent – it’s like a place where everyone is welcome and it is a shelter for whoever passes in the desert and can find a place to rest and to secure himself. Once you arrive here in the Israeli pavilion you can just have a seat, relax yourself and feel welcome."
