Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said Israel reserves the right to act ‘at any given moment, in any way’ against Iran during a press conference with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah Bin Zayed in Washington DC, on Wednesday.
"If a terror regime is going to acquire a nuclear weapon, we must act. We must make clear that the civilised world won’t allow it. If the Iranians don’t believe the world is serious about stopping them, they’ll race to the bomb. Israel reserves the right to act at any given moment, in any way. That is not only our right, it is also our responsibility. Iran has publicly stated it wants to wipe us out," said Lapid.
Asked if a military option was on the table in acting against Iran, Blinken said "Israel has the right to defend itself and we strongly support that proposition."
"We believe a diplomatic solution to our concerns with Iran, concerns that are shared among the three of us and among many countries around the world including our European Partners, including Russia and China, that a diplomatic path is both the best and most effective way to do that," he added. "We would like to see a mutual return to compliance with the JCPOA, but Iran’s responses – or rather lack thereof – have not been encouraging."
The comments come as talks over the Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) have been stalled between the administrations of US President Joe Biden and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. Former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 deal shortly after taking office, as he reimposed sanctions on Iran.
Enrique Mora, the European Union’s JCPOA envoy is set to visit Tehran on Thursday in hopes of reviving the talks.

SOT, Anthony Blinken, United States Secretary of State: "We strongly support these historic steps and we’re committed to continue building on the efforts of the last administration to expand the circle of countries with normalised relations with Israel. In the years ahead, we believe that normalisation can and should be a force for progress between Israel and Arab countries and other countries in the region and beyond. But also between Israelis and Palestinians."

SOT, Yair Lapid, Israeli Foreign Minister: "At the centre of my visit here is the concern about Iran’s race to nuclear capability. Iran is becoming a nuclear threshold country. Every day that passes, every delay in negotiations brings Iran closer to a nuclear bomb. The Iranians are clearly dragging their heels, trying to cheat the world to continue to enrich uranium to develop their ballistic missile programme. Secretary of State Blinken and I are sons of Holocaust survivors. We know there are moments when nations must use force to protect the world from evil. If a terror regime is going to acquire a nuclear weapon, we must act. We must make clear that the civilised world won’t allow it. If the Iranians don’t believe the world is serious about stopping them, they’ll race to the bomb. Israel reserves the right to act at any given moment, in any way. That is not only our right, it is also our responsibility. Iran has publicly stated it wants to wipe us out."

SOT, Anthony Blinken, United States Secretary of State: "To be very clear, Israel has the right to defend itself and we strongly support that proposition. We’ve also been clear, as I said a moment ago, that we believe a diplomatic solution to our concerns with Iran, concerns that are shared among the three of us and among many countries around the world including our European Partners, including Russia and China, that a diplomatic path is both the best and most effective way to do that. So we’ve been clear that, as I’ve said, we would like to see a mutual return to compliance with the JCPOA, but Iran’s responses – or rather lack thereof – have not been encouraging."

SOT, Abdullah Bin Zayed, UAE Foreign Minister: "The more of a successful Israeli UAE relationship there will be, that would not only encourage the region but also encourage Israeli people and the Palestinian people that this path works. That this path is worth, not only investing in but also taking the risk."
