A building caught fire in Beirut on Thursday, following clashes between police and a group of protesters calling for the removal of a judge involved in the 2020 Beirut explosion probe. The Lebanese army has been drafted in.
Gunshots rang out and smoke filled the streets, with one part of a residential appearing to set ablaze after being pummelled by military vehicles.
The Lebanese Army has announced the arrest of one suspected shooter and called for people to vacate the area, warning that anyone found carrying live rounds would be shot.
At least six have died in the gunfire according to the Interior Ministry, whilst the Lebanese Red Cross has said at least 30 have been injured.
The protest was organised by Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, who accuse Judge Tarek Bitar of being biased in his investigation into the 2020 port blasts, which killed more than 200 people.
