Smoke and gunfire filled the streets of Beirut, on Thursday, after clashes broke out between police and a group of protesters calling for the removal of a judge involved in the 2020 Beirut explosion investigation. The Lebanese army has been drafted in.
Armoured vehicles were deployed to the area, leading to the arrest of one shooter. The Lebanese Army has called for people to vacate the streets, announcing that anyone in the protest area would be shot.
The protest was organised by Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, who accuse Judge Tarek Bitar of being biased in his investigation into the 2020 port blasts, which killed more than 200 people.
